LSA

I think the LTDs are actually through May 2009, as Wii+PS3+360 = 8.3m, which is the same as reported by this week's MCV through May 2009. Adding the 2010 figures to the LTD reported through 2009 results in these LTDs:

NDS: 8.9m
Wii: 4.4m
PSP: 2.7m
PS3: 2.4m
360: 1.9m

It seems that this 2.5m PS3 figure must be shipped.

French Market worth €2.7B in 2009

SELL report that the French video game industry was valued at €2.709 billion in 2009, the second highest year ever after 2008. This was enough to keep it as the number one market in Continental Europe, but still behind the UK when the whole of Europe is taken into account. The figures come from GfK and include "France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece ... ... ."

In 2008 GfK had the total value of hardware and software (including PC) at €2.944B in France compared to €2.756B in Germany, which would mean the French market declined by 8% in value during 2009, assuming the 2009 figure doesn't include accessories.

Wii passes 4M in France, DS passes 8M

Nintendo France, citing GfK figures have announced that Wii lifetime sales exceeded 4,000,000 through week 52 of 2009. They also mentioned that DS is over 8,000,000 in the country, although they didn't specify which week this occured, or how much over 8M it is.

SCE France recently said that PS3 was at 2,000,000 and X360 at 1,600,000 through week 51.

Whilst exact hardware numbers for 2009 have yet to be announced by GfK, it's possible work out rough YTD sales for the above consoles from the 2008 LTDs;

2009 Hardware Unit Sales: (LTD)

NDS: ~1.4M (8M)
Wii: ~1.1M (4M)
PS3: ~0.8M (2M)
360: ~0.5M (1.6M)

As Nintendo didn't say how far over 4M and 8M Wii & DS were, and due to PS3 & 360 numbers being only through week 51 exact figures may end up slightly higher.

Wii sells 100,000 in France following price cut

According to GfK Wii sold 100,700 units in France over the seven weeks following the price cut compared to 91,500 units sold during the same period in 2008.

The increase in sales was not enough to offset the price cut as value dropped from, €22.7m last year to €21.6m this year.

SELL pay GfK nearly €1m annually for French sales figures

Jean-Claude Larue, the general delegate of French industry association SELL explains why SELL doesn't publish figures with it's French charts (Google translation);

EL: The GFK SELL and provide a weekly hit parade of games and consoles but no exact figure sale is ever given in France in contrast to other countries. This lack, then why?

- J-CL: Figures are paying dearly. The contract between SELL and GFK already cost nearly one million euros per year. And these data belong to secrecy. It is not nothing to have 2,000 stores visited regularly each week and have the sales to the nearest unit provided by a large international institute GFK as no one denies. That'sa lot of money. It did not give it to people who do not want to pay. When you look at the top of the books we do not say the number of copies sold. Every week we publish on the site SELL the top 5 PC games and consoles, in order. One does not simply quantity. We give general figures twice a year. In IDEF, our trade show in Cannes in June, and towards the end of the year.

Looks like we're stuck with semi-annual software figures for only the top selling titles for the time being. Fortunately the manufacturers seem happy to supply us with GfK hardware figures more often than every six months.

Sony France talk PS3 sales

Some PS3 numbers from George Fornay of SCE France:

* First week PS3 sales of nearly 40,000 (another report put the exact figure at 37,000).

* Previous weeks PS3 was selling 4,000 - 5,000.

* YTD sales of 300,000 in 2009.

* Target is to sell 900,000 - 1,000,000 hardware units and 6,000,000 sotware units this year.

* 530,000 hardware units sold in 2007, 715,000 hardware units & 4,200,000 software units sold in 2008 (these numbers are slightly different to previously announced numbers, maybe there has been an adjustment).

French Hardware LTDs (GfK)

Some numbers from Stephen Bole of Nintendo France:

NDS - 7,500,000 (+100,000 since the end of may, total includes 400,000 DSi)
PS2 - 5,900,000
Wii - 3,300,000 (+100,000 since the end of may)

He also gave PS3 and X360 numbers, but they seem to be a little dated, at the end of May GfK France had the other consoles at:

PSP - 2,300,000
PS3 - 1,430,000
360 - 1,330,000
