X360 around 100,000 in New Zealand

Microsoft claim 950,000 Xbox 360s sold across Australia and New Zealand, 850,000 of which have been sold in Australia, leaving New Zealand to make up the remaining 100,000.

PS3 Slim sells 4,600 units in New Zealand (GfK)

From an SCENZ press release;

Sony Computer Entertainment New Zealand (SCENZ) announced today that the new slimline PlayStation®3 (PS3™) 120GB console has enjoyed a very successful debut in New Zealand; with more than 4,600 units sold between launch on the 3 September up to 20 September.

PS3 was the number one selling console in New Zealand during launch week and official GfK figures reveal the console has held that position each week since its launch. This news comes as SCE globally announced yesterday at Tokyo Games Show the introduction of a PS3 250GB console launching this October and a Motion Controller arriving mid-2010.

David Hine, Sales and Marketing Director, Sony Computer Entertainment New Zealand said, “The new PlayStation 3 slim model has experienced exceptionally strong sales in the New Zealand market. Sales exceeded 4,600 units in 17 days and sold through more than 2,800 in the first 4 days alone.”

Australian & New Zealand Xbox 360 Hardware Sales (GfK)

GfK figures put Xbox 360 lifetime sales at 734,000 units across Australia and New Zealand at the beginning of July. Whilst Microsoft don't claim to have the highest sales in 2009, they do claim the highest growth, up 83% over the same time period in 2008.

As for Xbox LIVE, Microsoft claim nearly 400,000 users, and an increase of 39% year on year in the number of downloads from the service. There have been 6.4m pieces of content downloaded over the past twelve months.

For comparison these are GfK's lifetime hardware unit sales in Australia through 2008:

Wii - 979,000
360 - 537,000
PS3 - 368,000*

*Sony claim an additional 75,000 PS3's given away with Bravia TVs etc

And New Zealand:

360: 70,000*
PS3: 60,000
